Welcome to Tai Chi for Beginners

I am Shifu Andy Denney, former Royal Marines Commando and 7th Generation Inheritor of Shaolin Mizongquan, a powerful mixed martial art from Qing Dynasty China. Together with my wife Shu we have been teaching Yang Style Tai Chi for over 15 years, as Disciples and qualified instructors under Grandmaster Lu Junhai.

The course is designed to provide a complete foundation in Yang Shi Taijiquan (Tai Chi Chu'an), incorporating stance and footwork practice, basic Qigong (Chi Kung), and to introduce some of the principal movements of the Yang 85 Form.  Once mastered, the student will have a solid understanding of the fundamentals required for deeper practice.

This course is perfect for beginners looking to improve their health and wellness and get started on their Tai Chi Journey, and for more experienced martial artists looking to add some internal practice to their development.

What Our Students Say

Anne Fanning

Andy and Shu are kind and welcoming teachers of tai chi. Every week they provide our group with knowledge and skills in a fun environment. I absolutely love the classes and afterwards always feel so much calmer and relaxed than I did beforehand. Tai chi is very much moving meditation and stress busting for me.

David Robinson

As a mature student with a martial arts background,. I find that Andy & Shu teach Tai Chi in a style that acknowledges the traditional martial roots of the art in a way that many others miss. I look forward to every session.

Christine Manning

Andy and Shu are skilled and patient teachers. The classes are welcoming and tai chi is a great skill to learn. Can’t think of a better use of a Saturday morning.

Sandra Tarsey

I love the gtoup atmosphere. The enthusiasm of Shu and Andy when they are teaching us something new or helping us improve. I look forward to each week's class.

Rob Allen

As a complete beginner to Tai Chi I was welcomed to the class by Andy and Shu. They have a very open and friendly style of tuition making all members of the group whatever their ability and experience feel at ease, respected and valued. They are themselves excellent practitioners with considerable knowledge of the sequence of moves, the theory behind each move and ways in which to practise. They also use very helpful and often humorous ways to explain, train and encourage all members of the group - including making practice videos available. Nothing is too much trouble and they are happy to explain over and over! They are keen to promote Tai Chi as a huge benefit for both physical and mental welfare. It easily becomes a daily, calming, health promoting way of life. Personally I feel five stars is not enough. I can strongly recommend taking up a class with Andy and Shu
